This Is Westside Huddle: Friday Night Lights to Saturday Legends and everything in between.
Football out West has too many good stories to stop at one state line.
There’s a high school rivalry in West Texas that means everything to the two towns playing it. A junior college prospect in California earning his way onto a recruiting board. A quarterback in Idaho whose film deserves a closer look. A coach in New Mexico building a program with the players who show up every afternoon.
That’s where Westside Huddle begins.
We’re building a football publication that follows the game across California, Texas, Colorado, New Mexico, Arizona, Nevada, Washington, Oregon, Wyoming, and Idaho. A place where fans can discover a team outside their usual circle, follow a prospect’s development, and understand what’s happening across the region.
Friday Night Lights to Saturday Legends is our promise to follow the journey. Because between a player’s first varsity start and his first college snap, there is a whole football story worth covering.
Friday Nights Belong Here
You can learn a lot about a community by showing up on a Friday night.
Listen to the crowd when the home team needs a stop. Watch the sideline after a sophomore makes his first big play. See how many former players come back to stand along the fence.
Westside Huddle is here for that football.
We’ll cover the matchups, rivalries, playoff races, and performances that give each season its shape. We’ll look for emerging prospects and established standouts, with attention to what they actually do on the field.
A scholarship offer is news. So is a player improving enough to earn a starting job. So is a coach turning years of losing into a team that expects to compete.
There should be room for all of it.
The JUCO Route Deserves Real Coverage
For many players, the road to college football runs through a junior college.
That road comes with its own demands: earning playing time, handling coursework, developing physically, and producing film while the next opportunity is still uncertain. Every season matters. Sometimes every snap does.
Westside Huddle will make junior college football a regular part of our coverage. The programs, the coaches, the recruiting movement, and the players working toward a transfer deserve more attention than an occasional mention when someone signs with a major school.
We want readers to know who those players are while they’re earning that opportunity.
Saturdays Across the West
Our college coverage will follow the region’s biggest programs alongside the schools that receive less national attention.
There’s compelling football across the FBS, FCS, Division II, Division III, and NAIA levels. Players are developing, coaches are building, and communities are investing in teams throughout that landscape.
We’ll cover the games and the bigger questions around them. What gives a team its identity? Which players are changing its season? How is a staff recruiting and developing its roster? What happens when a prospect arrives on campus and has to earn his place?
Following those questions connects Friday nights to Saturdays. It lets us tell a player’s story beyond signing day.
Watch the Game. Know the People.
Westside Huddle will bring a coach’s and evaluator’s curiosity to its coverage.
When a running back has a big night, we want to look at his vision and the blocking in front of him. When a defense takes over a game, we want to understand the pressure, coverage, and adjustments behind it. When we introduce a prospect, we want to explain what his film shows and where he can develop.
We’ll also make space for the people behind the performance—the mentors, families, teammates, and coaches who help a player keep going.
That means reporting, conversations, film study, and stories with something to say.
Bring Your Football Story Into the Huddle
This region is too big, and its football is too deep, for every worthwhile story to find us on its own.
We want to hear from coaches with a program worth following, players with film to share, and fans who know someone we should be covering. Tell us about the rivalry your town circles every year. The JUCO player earning another shot. The team that has quietly become a contender.
Westside Huddle is being built for people who care enough to look beyond the headline and stay through the final whistle.
From Friday Night Lights to Saturday Legends. Welcome to Westside Huddle.
